In this elderly interview, I chose to interview a very good friend, who currently lives in Henderson, NV. Ms. D.T is a 70 year old Caucasian female who became widowed three years ago. We met in her two story home, where she lives with her beloved cocker spaniel named Belle. As I emerged myself into this week’s material, my main takeaway is that I do not think about aging. I know most men in my family live to be in their 70s and women into the 70s to 90s, but I do not think about aging from a personal aspect. I am aware that death will eventually come but with my son about to turn two, it is not something I sit and ponder. Young adults who want to have plastic surgery often have a different intention and goal than adults. They decide to have plastic surgery to improve any physical features they feel are troublesome or imperfect. If these imperfections were left uncorrected, they could affect the teen later in life. Teens should be allowed to have corrective cosmetic surgery, because it can help improve self-confidence and self-esteem and it can help medically.
My older population observational hours allowed me to realize that the elderly are active members of society and have a lot of wisdom to offer to the younger generations. I got to listen to great stories from a great person that I met at a local restaurant. I wouldn’t have imagined the astonishing life experiences people from can go through and now more than ever, I feel grateful for my family and our wellbeing. Getting older is something to look forward to since it’s just a misconception that as you age, you lose your happiness. I now understand that getting older means having more time to enjoy hobbies and family, which bring true happiness to your life.
