Silvia In A White Heron

429 Words2 Pages
I read the short story “A White Heron” by Sarah Orne Jewett, the first thing that I found interesting and strange is that the grandmother Mrs.Tilley lets the young man stay at there house and feeds him. He is a stranger who has a gun, who duck hunts and comes out of nowhere from the forest. Yet he is welcomed with open hands even though Mrs.Tilley and Silvia live in a house alone deep in the forest. The reason I found this very interesting and strange is because in this age no one will welcome you to their home if you are a stranger. Silvia who is a child seems to have fallen in love with the young man for his passion for birds but, does not know why he kills birds which makes Silvia like him less. I find this sentence to be a little disturbing
