Elizabeth Bennett and Charlotte Lucas are two beloved characters from the renowned novel, Pride and Prejudice, written by Jane Austen. Elizabeth Bennett and Charlotte Lucas were neighbors and highly valued each other’s friendship. Although they were very close friends they did have their differences and similarities, both with their beauty, age, family positions, and views on marriage. Elizabeth Bennett was very handsome, with dark eyes that enhanced her beauty. Mr. Darcy, a wealthy gentleman, admired Elizabeth's dark eyes and considered them to be a fine pair of eyes. Mr. Darcy's aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Elizabeth's cousin, Mr. Collins, along with many others all considered Elizabeth Bennet to be pretty. Charlotte, being twenty-seven was more advanced in years than Elizabeth, who was only twenty years old. Being older than Elizabeth, Charlotte was more mature which enabled her to make decisions with sound judgement and discretion in regards to her future. Within Elizabeth's and Charlotte's families there were some contrasts. Elizabeth and Charlotte held different positions in their families. Elizabeth was the second eldest in the Bennett family and Charlotte was the eldest child in the Lucas family. Elizabeth had no brothers, only sisters, whereas Charlotte had younger brothers and sisters. Although Mr. and Mrs Bennett desired a son, their children comprised of five daughters. Elizabeth was looked upon as being a beautiful young lady, while Charlotte was not equal in beauty with Elizabeth, and few people took notice of her appearance.
