To be in hiding for years, to be shut off from the world: these were the lives of those living during the Holocaust -- or Japanese internment. Anne Frank was young girl who lived during the time of the Holocaust and Nazi invasion. Jeanne Wakatsuki was an internee who lived during the internment of Japanese-Americans. Both suffered during their times of captivity, and shared their experiences to the world. Though the two have differences, their experiences yield many similarities.
Many people have learned about the Holocaust throughout the years, but learning about it from a primary source is a whole different experience. A scary journey that turned out to be the Holocaust has been told by two individuals that survived. These two stories tell the reader what life was like and what they went through. Even though the conditions were terrible, both Eli and Lina were able to survive and break away through fear, horrendous experiences, and hope that lead them to surviving and leaving people they cared about behind.
It is more important to understand the similarities between Miep and Anne rather than their differences. This is because their similarities demonstrated that although they were of different religions, they weren't as different at the Germans made them seem. Anne Frank was a young Jewish girl whose family as well as her had to go into hiding because of the Anti-Semitism in Europe as well as the Holocaust. Miep Gies was an older Christian woman who helped hide Anne Frank and her family during the time of the Holocaust. She put herself into a lot of danger by helping the Franks.
The Holocaust started in 1933 and lasted for about 12 years. It was a time were Europe was taken by a German dictator, Adolf Hitler, and his army. They tortured and forced millions of Jewish men, women, children, including Elie Wiesel and Anne Frank. They both encountered different lifestyles and outcomes but they also have somethings in common. Elie and Anne both went through the Holocaust with their families.
Elie Wiesel had an interesting story, he felt the need to tell. At the age of 15, was sent to a concentration camp. Wiesel was sent to Buna Werke labor camp, with his father where they were forced to work under deplorable, inhumane conditions. They were transferred to other Nazi camps and force marched to Buchenwald where his father died after being beaten by a German soldier, just three months before the camp was liberated. Wiesel’s mother and younger sister Tzipora also died in the Holocaust.
Anne Frank Compare and Contrast The Diary of Anne Frank takes place Amsterdam, Netherlands. In the book Anne and her family are Jews in World War II. Because of the oppression of the Jews, Anne and her family are forced to go into hiding. Anne, her mom Edith, her dad Otto, her sister Margot, Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan, Peter Van Daan, and Mr. Dussel.
The play version of The Diary of Anne Frank tells the story of Anne and her family trying to survive the Holocaust. In this play Anne and the others are locked in an attic so the Nazis will not find them. In a similar book Night written by Elie Wiesel tells us about how he survived the concentration camp during the Holocaust. In Night Elie and his father are tortured, beaten, and starved by the Nazis but Elie miraculously survived. Although Elie and Anne have different views on religion, both have are sent to concentration camps and have a close relationship with his father.
Whereas others choose to suppress their memories, this is their way of finding peace and moving on with their life. The difference in individuals ways of coping with the trauma of the holocaust is justified in the opposition of opinions that Harry Weinberg and Elie Wiesel possess. Ellie Wiesel believes that the sharing of stories and memories from the Holocaust is crucial as it was "the last wish of the dead", therefore he holds himself as responsible to "devote [his] life to testify on behalf" of the people who did not make it out of World War II or the concentration camps alive. Wiesel writes "to remain faithful" to everyone who suffered the most appalling genocide in history; and to develop an understanding amongst all people of the ghastly events that took place under the Nazi's reign. Harry Weinberg portrays survivors that choose to let their stories and memories be forgotten and swept along as they find peace in their new life away from the horrific events that plague their memory.

Children during the Holocaust were targeted because they were weak and small, and the Nazis wanted strong and independent Jews who were willing to work, but some children were strong and were able to work in labor camps. The lives of children inside the camps grew up with the grim memories of being separated from loved ones by death and torture.
