The events of “John Henry: Man vs. Machine” seems similar to the myth of “Beowulf” because they have similar plots and beliefs. In the myth, Beowulf fights to save lives of others and John Henry fights to save his job and his other fellow workers. Both are fighting for others. It states, “If John Henry won…he and the other men could keep their jobs.” This depicts how he’s fighting for others. His enemy is the new technology whereas Beowulf’s is the dragon. Even though they have different enemies they fight for a similar purpose and belief. This ties in how they have a similar plot. It says in the text, “John Henry died that hot July day.” It shows how they both laid their lives down for their cause.
