There many similarities between the modern world and the world of Beowulf. Quite a few themes in Beowulf have been presented, including the pressure between religion, fate, good and evil, not to mention allegiance and blood ties. Today, are societies thinking any different from the thinking of early civilization? There are indeed many similarities between Beowulf’s world (Heorot) and our modern day world. Many similarities can be seen in different forms of media, entertainment, political affairs as well as violent behavior. Violent behavior is very much alive in Beowulf’s world. The typical way for a warrior/hero to prove himself is through winning a battle, or violent behavior. Violent and bloody deaths as are described very vividly in Beowulf to the point that one feels they are witnessing a gruesome murder. He was a monster that had been destroying Heorot for years viscously tearing brave men limb from limb for amusement. Roger had built this wall in Heorot so that his people could feast and be entertained with tales of bravery and beauty. Even though it was temporary and Roger knew it wouldn’t last he built a wall to protect his lands from the rage of Grendel. This instance can be related to today’s world as America’s current President Donald Trump has also decided to construct a wall. He is determined to build a wall around Mexico. In addition, Donald Trump’s original ideas were to protect his country. Trump plans on building the wall because he doesn’t want criminals and illegal groups entering his country. He didn’t want anyone to try and destroy his land. Similarly, King Roger had the same ideas to keep the monster Grendel away.
