Similarities Between Booker T. Washington And W. E. B. Dubois

Strong civil rights activist Booker T Washington and W.E.B Dubois. Both helped us get our freedom, but what was their strategy? Both men had their story. Although Washington and Dubois had different views on how African Americans could get their equal rights, both of them where civil rights leaders that helped everyone. With their encouragement African Americans received their freedom. I’m here to tell you how they did it.

First is Booker T Washington. Booker T Washington was born on April 15, 1856 as a slave in Hales Ford Virginia. His job as a slave was to carry sacks of grains to the plantation mill. Nearby the plantation there was a school. Washington would look inside and see kids reading and learning. He wanted to be educated to but knew it was illegal for slave like himself. His mother got him a book. From that book Washington learned how to read and he learned the alphabet. Later on he was a civil rights activist. His idea was that African Americans should accept discrimination and focus more and making themselves

Dubois was born on February 23, 1868 in Great Barrington Massachusetts. He was very academic student and supported by his teachers. He attended school with mostly whites. His big accomplishment was being the first African American to earn Ph.D. at Harvard. He encountered Jim Crow Laws when he moved to Nashville Tennessee. He went on to be an author writing The Philadelphia Negro and his famous book the souls of Black Folk which was a collection of 14 essays. He was Co-founder of the N.A.A.C.P. Their purpose was trying to give everyone the same rights and trying to eliminate racism and hatred. He was also leader of the Niagara movement which was African American activist that tried to fight for their rights. His idea was that the only way African Americans could get freedom was by fighting and
