In the book Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger and movie Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, each told the same story. Two boys ran away from home with a couple of things on there back. The quote A relates to both stories, “This fall I think you’re riding for--it’s a special kind of fall, a horrible kind. The man falling isn't permitted to feel or hear himself hit bottom. He just keeps falling and falling. The whole arrangement’s designed for men who, at some time or another in their lives, were looking for something their own environment couldn't supply them with. This quote relates to Chris because his plan also started to fail once he ate the berries and he also missed his parents also. In Into the Wild a quote that Chris says goes along with missing his parents. He says “Happiness is only real when shared”, I choose this quote because he wants to share the happiness with his family. I know this because while he said this he had a vision of him running into his parents arms and hugging them. In Catcher in the Rye a quote that relates to Holden missing his family is “For one thing, i didn’t give much of a damn any more if they caught me. I really didn’t. I figured if they caught me, they caught me. I almost wished they did, in a way.” This quote from Catcher in the Rye goes along with the quote given to us because at the same time his plan was failing, it seems like he wanted it to fail by getting caught by his parents.
