French Naturalist Jean-Baptists Lamarck, commonly known as 'Lamarck' was a famous soldier prior to his interest in natural history and medicine. Lamarck's early ideas had turned into the first fully formed biological evolutionary theory occurring and proceeding in accordance with natural laws. Within the famously published "The Origin of Species," Lamarck's theory was built upon by Charles Darwin. Darwin was an English naturalist, geologist, and biologist known greatly for his contributions to evolutionary science. He persevered within his studies to make it known that species in life have descended from greater common ancestors over time. Darwin's partner, Alfred Russell Wallace assisted Darwin with his determination that evolution's branching pattern resulted from Natural Selection, or the process in which organisms who better adapt tend to survive in their natural habitat.

Lamarck's theory had been solely based off how organisms change within their lifetime, and they pass changes on to their offspring, whereas Darwin's theory was based on natural selection, which states organisms possessed variation. These variations tend to cause some organisms to survive and reproduce more than others. Darwin's theory was more widely accepted because he provided more evidence to support it, while Lamarck's theory states organisms become more complicated overtime, which does not account for simple organisms. Through observing human activity, we can conclude that Darwin's theory is more realistic. If a human were to get an ear piercing, that wouldn't cause their child to be born with a piercing. Darwin's theory has become even stronger as the study of genetics emerges ultimately showing inherited traits are passes on through genes and remain unaffected by the outside
