Interests in math and science. Mr Hyde had developed a potion that allowed him to turn into Dr. Jekyll. Jekyll found a way to separate his good side from his darker side, by transforming himself into a monster free of consciences. But he later found that he was turning into more and more into Mr Hyde. He started turning into Mr. Hyde in random places, the transformations got worse and worse.
In their respective novels, the monster from Frankenstein and Grendel from the novel share many similarities as well as differences that can be seen throughout their separate novels. While the number of differences between the two novels are abundant, we will mostly be looking at how each of these two complex novels are similar to each other. In focusing on their similarities we look at how they both feel alone and isolated, they both want companionship, and they both are at times enticed by humanity. One of the biggest similarities between Grendel from the novel and the Monster from Frankenstein is that they both feel alone and isolated.
In cinema nowadays, movies that are more famous among the people somehow engaged with explosions, gunfights, and superheroes. In the early days of cinema, the special spot for people had to do something with monsters and murderers. Some of these monsters have abilities to be sympathetic to the people who watch the movie. As a great example there is the movie Frankenstein. Dr. Frankenstein’s invention, is a monster that is created by an obnoxious scientist who decides to play god and it goes wrong.
Jekyll and Hyde Good vs evil Stevenson presents the idea of duality through the differences between Dr Jekyll and mr Hyde. Throughout the novella, there is a repeated antithesis as the good of Jekyll is compared to the “detestabillity” of Hyde. Jekyll has a highly respectable front and is known for a having a good reputation, however Hyde is infamous he known for being evil and is strongly disliked by all he meets. Hyde is described as “like Satan” and “devilish” empathising his pure evil and his dangerous and deplourable nature. Whereas Jekyll is often described as a respected man and is “well built”.
Grendel in the novel is more similar than different to "the monster" in Frankenstein because Grendel in the novel is miserable, "the monster" in Frankenstein is alone, and Grendel in the novel realizes who he is or what he wants. In the beginning of the story Grendel doesn’t understand why his mother and he have to hide from the men. He has no one to talk to and feels like his mom hates him because she is always ignoring him and doesn't talk much. Grendel feels miserable as if there was no point in living.
“The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” by Robert Louis Stevenson, depicts the same storyline, but includes many differences on how the plot evolves in the film versus in the novella. In the first scene of the film you see people crying and moving in slow motion which set’s the mood for the film for the scene. There are many differences that are exemplified in the film then in the novella. In the book Hyde acts more violent to me, whereas in the film his actions are shown as more sexually. An example of this is when in the film Hyde is raping women instead of his brutal violence that is exemplified in the book.
Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” because the story takes place in Victorian England we see that the characters have no room for expression of emotions or violence. Everything they do is secret, so the more Dr Jekyll is repressed, the more he wants to be Mr Hyde. The original characteristics of Henry Jekyll are reflected as “...life of effort, virtue, and control” (pg. 172) because, most of his life his vice activities were maintained a secret. According to Jekyll, when evil is separated into one body, one will not know right from wrong because there is no conscious in a being of complete evil which was Hyde for
“Hyde” is just Jekyll, having transformed his body into something unrecognizable". Jekyll does not make the potion to take away all evil away from himself. He created a potion that would allow himself to express his feelings without feeling guilt and facing any consequences effecting his respectable self. Dr. Jekyll in the novella is a respected professor and well known around the town. While Hyde on the other hand is almost the complete opposite.
Dr. Jekyll is seemingly good, kind, and benevolent; while is not purely good he is a moral gentleman. He started his experiment so he could totally separate the bad and the good in himself into two separate beings. He did not succeed, however, for Dr. Jekyll is plagued by the feeling that he wants to become evil again, thus he wants to become Mr. Hyde. It is important to note that Mr. Hyde is completely evil; he has no goodness in him, in contrast to Dr. Jekyll who was a troubled mix. Mr. Hyde feels no remorse for any evil he has done and actually feels elated when he does commit a moral sin.
Overall, Stevenson’s presentation of the duality of man is conveyed by the relationship between Jekyll and Hyde because towards the end of the novel. Jekyll begins to realise that the schism which once caused them to despise one another, help them understand each other situation. Jekyll even begins to ‘pity’ Hyde toward the end of novel, praising his ‘love for life’ by calling it ‘wonderful’, as his creator he consequently acknowledges the condescending attitudes towards Hyde, unfairly for his appearance, however rightfully so for his actions. Moreover, like Darwin’s theory, Hyde could never be accepted into society, often being characterised as a ‘brute’. Additionally, Jekyll’s actions would be condemned by the Victorian readers, as he was
Jekyll and Hyde fits with the theme of vampirism. Throughout the story, Dr. Jekyll is constantly feeling like he is being controlled and manipulated by his darker side, Mr. Hyde. Mr. Hyde acts as the vampire in this scenario as he is younger and and more able to get away with the horrible things he does. In a way, this vampire side of Jekyll is a way for him to release his anger without feeling guilty or facing any consequences, which is why he creates a potion to turn into Hyde at his interest. Foster draws conclusions that “The hideous Edward Hyde exists to demonstrate to readers that even a respectable man has a dark side…”
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde consists of reputation, good vs evil and damage control. In other words, Utterson tirelessly works to prevent his best friend Dr. Jekyll from being dragged into the horrid affairs of Mr. Hyde, and Dr. Jekyll goes through the greatest of lengths to prevent his Hyde identity from being discovered, in order to avoid anyone knowing of his somewhat questionable scientific work and morally despicable behavior. Much of the novel is based on the characters ' reputations, how they have to maintain a good public image, as they are upper class people. The novel takes place in Victorian England and the main characters are all male members of upper class London.
Throughout the story one could compare Dr. Jekyll to a drug addict, through the way he transforms physically. Hyde is a dark and evil character with a dark aura around him. Mayo Clinic describes changes like puffy eyes, dry mouth, issues with the jaw and hygiene becomes a “lack of interest” as physical changes. Along with appearance, the setting and surroundings of Mr. Hyde give the vibe of a drug addict. Like the way we first meet him at night,how he spends most of his time in his lab or the darkness of his house.

Differences in characters are important especially if there are two main characters or two characters that are mentioned as much as these two are. So, this is not a surprise that these two characters are different in almost everyway. To start, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are different in physical appearance.
