The endocrine system and nervous system have many similarities as well as differences. They are the 2 systems responsible for detecting, processing and bringing about responses to ensure the health and achieve to homeostasis for an individual or organism. They regulate many things such as body temperature, water levels, ions and minerals, gases and blood glucose levels. A failure of homeostasis can potentially mean disaster for the organism. For example failure to maintain body temperature leads to hypothermia or heatstroke. Failure to maintain energy balance can result in obesity and diabetes. In each of these cases, extremes are potentially dangerous. The endocrine system consist of many glands. These glands secrete chemicals known as hormones.
