The novel Frankenstein and the movie Edward Scissorhands is a mix between monstrosity, sadness, rejection, loneliness, and the want of having someone. I will thematically be comparing and contrasting the novel Frankenstein to the movie Edward Scissorhands. Similar themes between the two are creation and isolation from society. The two monsters are the same in the aspect of being created by man. The two creatures are isolated from society for the first part of their existence. The two creatures were in isolation for different reasons. The reason Frankenstein's monster is in isolation from society is because, he looks scary, acts out in a monstrous manner, and people are afraid of him. Edward is in isolation because his creator died, and he never felt comfortable leaving. Different themes between the two is, love and betrayal. The monster longs to be accepted and/or loved by someone. Unfortunately, this does not happen throughout the novel. In the novel Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein is obsessed with the secret of life. He finally did what he wanted to do and creates life! Victor creates a monster from body parts he scrounged together. The novel indicates this monster is a male. Victor is feeling mixed emotions all at once by his creation. He then immediately runs away, feeling regret about the monster he created. Throughout the novel Victor tries to stray far from his creation. The monster eventually finds Victor when he is alone and asks a favor from him. The favor is to create him a mate. The monster tells Victor he will take his mate and go far away.
