Frankenstein and The Birthmark Writers' Project The writers’ project for both Frankenstein and The Birthmark is to show that sometimes knowledge has a dark side. In both of the stories knowledge led to the death of many people. Such as William, Elizabeth, and Henry in Frankenstein and Georgiana in The Birthmark. In both stories knowledge was used to strive for happiness but the opposite was found. Such as how Aylmer was trying to perfect Georgiana and this led to her death. In both stories knowledge wrapped up the two scientists and isolated them from the outside world. Such as in Frankenstein when Victor went to Ingolstadt and obsessed over his work. In Frankenstein, Victor creates life but when he creates life he runs away instead of nurturing it. This leads to the creature he created wanting vengeance against Victor. This leads to the creature killing three people close to Victor. He kills Victor's best friend Henry Clerval, Victor's brother William, and Victor's wife Elizabeth. The author is clearly trying to show that the knowledge of creating life should not be known through the repercussions that Victor had to face in the story. In The Birthmark it states ¨Poor? Nay, richest, happiest, most favored! Exclaimed he. My peerless bride, it is successful! You are perfect…you have rejected the best the earth could offer. Aylmer, dearest Aylmer, I am dying! ¨. In this quote Aylmer had developed a cure that was used to get rid of a birthmark on his wife Georgiana's face. But as the birthmark went away so did Georgiana's life. In this poem, the author was conveying the same point that the other author had conveyed but in a different manner. The knowledge of getting rid of Georgiana's birthmark led to her death just as in Frankenstein the knowledge of creating life led to the death of Victor's
