In Frankenstein and The Nightmare Before Christmas, Victor and Jack have everything they could have but go the extra mile to fill the hole in their hearts. In Frankenstein, Robert Walton tells the story of Dr. Victor Frankenstein and the deadly monster he created. Jack Skellington becomes bored with his annual rituals in The Nightmare Before Christmas and tries to turn a new leaf on life after discovering the land of Christmas. Victor Frankenstein and Jack Skellington both suffer trying to find the right path. Victor exclaims, “The wind, which had hitherto carried us along with amazing rapidity, sank at sunset to a light breeze; the soft air just ruffled the water and caused a pleasant motion among the trees as we approached the shore, from which it wafted the most delightful scent of flowers and hay. The sun sank beneath the horizon as we landed, and as I touched the shore I felt those cares and fears revive which soon were to clasp me and cling to me forever” (Shelley 196-197). This quote proves that Victor is amazed by the sunset and how nature is assisting the waters and the beauty. Victor had felt content for the first time in a while as he was not being chased by the monster. Victor is going to his honeymoon house with Elizabeth to celebrate their marriage and admires the scenery around him while rowing to the house. In this scene of The Nightmare Before Christmas, Jack discovers the Christmas door and goes in. He sees the environment and begins to sing about his fascination with the new world. He feels the snow and the happiness and wants to learn more about the magic. Jack begins to feel happy and rejoicing in this new land (13:54-18:39). This scene shows that Jack begins to discover the nature around him and the loneliness in his heart begins to feel filled. Jack is learning about this new land where people are happy all the time and wants to feel just like they do. These scenes are similar because both show the main characters of the story finding peace for the first time in a while. They can deal with their feelings in the same way by going through nature and new surroundings.
