J.D Salinger (Jerome David Salinger) is a well known author from the 1950’s, his more famous works are “The Catcher in the Rye”, “Franny and Zooey”, and as well as a movie: Pari that is based off of the book “Franny and Zooey.” Originally “Franny and Zooey” were two different short stories that collided together, but Salinger decided to mash the stories up into one book. With this he had some similar and different themes within these books and some of these are. The events in “The Catcher in the Rye” follows one another in a random order, and the sequence of the events at Pencey Prep and the sequence of those in New York could be changed without changing the plot. However, the stories of the plot are strung like diamonds on four narrative strands of different lengths. The two longer ones stretch throughout the length of the whole novel. Just like “The Catcher in the Rye,” in “Frany and Zooey” the story continues off of Franny's emotional crisis three days later. Its possible future incorporation into a novel may justify its present form, but at present we must judge it as a short story. They are Holden's conflict with the world of adults and his descent into an almost suicidal depression. The two shorter narrative strands are developed only in the second half of the novel.
