Metamorphosis is the process of transformation from an immature form to an adult form in two or more distinct stages. One of the themes of The Metamorphosis is the limits of sympathy. My sister Lucia had limits of sympathy with her school teachers the few friends she would make and also her babysitters because she has a psychological condition called Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder also known as (ADHD). The situations of both Gregor and Lucia are similar because they both were isolated from people at a point in life. Lucia had a troubled point in her life because of ADHD, and this happened from the first day of kindergarten until the seventh grade of middle school. So Lucia’s problem was during the young times when she was a child. Gregor, on the other hand, had his troubled times from his youth when battling with his insecurity, through adulthood. He battled with his own family while Lucia battled with not only her family, but with other people she interacted with. Another difference is that Lucia had people who wanted to help her with her ADHD. Gregor did not have anyone to help him except his sister, who then later stops helping him. For Lucia, she was treated with a dose every day to calm her down. The teachers and Lucia’s parents also tried different methods to help her focus, such as a heavy vest on her shoulders all day to make her exhausted and lose all her energy. They would also put a tape on the floor around her desk that she could cross, and have her sit on a bouncing ball to also make her exhausted. Gregor did not have any help to understand him and also to help him in what he was going through in life. Once he turned into a cockroach, he had no support or help from anyone except his sister, who would take him food and put it under his door, but after a while, his sister became distant from Gregor and forgot about
