I was raised and grow up in Hargeisa; therefore, the first thing I was taught there was that Hargeisa is the capital of Somalia, and there was no other truth than that. Until one day, I met one girl from Mogadishu; I was shocked when she told me that Mogadishu is the capital of Somalia, not Hargeisa. With the years I learned a lot of things from her; although Hargeisa and Mogadishu are two cities of one country, they have plenty of different and similarities between them in all kinds of matters. Every time I heard the word “perfect weather”, Mogadishu’s comes to my mind. One of the reasons why Mogadishu is known for her excellent weather could be the fact they have a beach; as a result of their amazing location and weather, Mogadishu’s people pleased with their bright, shining, and glorious skin. Which is in my opinion that is the reason why Mogadishu’s people seem fresher. Unlike Mogadishu, Hargeisa is known for her dry and unstable weather. Although we share the same basic language in Somalia, often it is difficult to communicate with each other. There are a lot of English and Italian words in our language, but not both cities use them. Each city has its own second language; Hargeisa’s second language is English, and Mogadishu’s uses Italian as her second language. Therefore, most people of Hargeisa have a trouble to understand what people from Mogadishu says, and that’s not the only reason. Mogadishu is a large city where people from all the different cities of Somalia settle, and that’s why they have many different words in their dictionary. However, Hargeisa is totally different.
