Which Letter Moves the Reader More? How do people identify which person is more successful than another? By achievement or by their ability? There are two significant characters that pushed the gear of reform in the U.S. History, Martin Luther King Jr., and Thomas Jefferson. Martin Luther King Jr, an African American leader who drove The Civil Rights moment to pursue equal human rights. In 1963, King gave a famous “I Have a Dream” speech to his followers and its great influence has lasted till now. “The Letter from Birmingham Jail,” one of the letters that King wrote to affect the whole nation. Jefferson claims that whoever tends to break the nature law will be punished, “That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to affect their Safety and Happiness” (Jefferson, 64). Jefferson does not believe people blindly suffers the pain would help their life getting any better. In Jefferson’s “The Declaration of Independence,” he mainly critics the Britain by listing bunch of fault which is puts up data to prove his statement to make his words more reliable, rather than the way self-evaluation like King. One of the fault that Jefferson talks about in his “declaration” is, “He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers” (Jefferson, 65). Compare to King, Jefferson does not need to use pathos at all, but he still successful inspired the reader's emotion because of the data and the list of god given right make his words
