Presidential Inaugurations of John F. Kennedy and Joe Biden Presidential inaugurations are a monumental event during a president’s time in office. This speech outlines the plan for their presidency and is the first impression they leave once in power. I will discuss the use of rhetorical appeals and conventions by former President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, in 1961, and President Joe Biden, in 2021, throughout their speeches. Both speakers appealed to the audience’s emotions, were logical, and credible. They talk about how important it is to be a whole nation. While Kennedy was a confident and charismatic speaker, Biden was not as passionate as Kennedy. He lacked body language, varying tone, emotion, and volume variations. This could cause the speech to be less enjoyable. This could affect the message from the speaker by causing the audience to not believe in the speaker, or they could have not taken the speaker seriously.
