President Johnson and Dr. King achieved their goal by each using their collective power and influence over their followers in order to spread their message, eventually calling the masses into action in their support. President Johnson pushed for legal change more, which was well paired with Dr. King, who was turning heads and altering mindsets as well as opinions. Dr. King was in support of LBJ and this may have been enough for some of his followers to be convinced he was really a presidential candidate they could trust, but for those who needed more evidence, Dr. King’s words were more than sufficient. Aeneas is a very virtuous and loyal character. In the Aeneid, Aeneas is off to fulfill his destiny of finding Rome in Italy after living past the fall of Troy. Aeneas goes about fulfilling his destiny by giving in to the fate that the gods have laid out for him, instead of fighting his fate like many others. This is very heroic and attracts a reasonable favor by the gods. Aeneas also upholds the dignity of the family, has compassion for others, and puts his wants and emotions on the side.
Aeolus refused to help them again and once again prevented them from getting to Ithaca. It should be noted that Aeolus was one of the characters who changed archetypes, at first he was an ally but then became a threshold guardian. Almost following these events, the men met a woman named Circe. They were intrigued by her beauty and kindness as well as their starvation. Then, Circe invites them into her home for a meal.
One more similarity between that story and the Aeneid is that new civilizations arose afterward, with Lynceus and Hypermnestra starting the Danaid Dynasty, and Aeneas starting the “family of Romans” (Aeneid 6.935-945). I don’t find the similarities in the situations between Danaus’ daughters and Aeneas and Turnus coincidental, because considering how nearly identical both stories are, Virgil must have intentionally done that on purpose in order to give us some foretelling clues that reveal how Aeneid ends. The Augustan values in Aeneid that represent this belt and Aeneas and Turnus’ encounter are “furor” and violation of “clementia.” In both scenarios, violence was applied instead of mercy in vengeful ways.
There are forces that keep the couples from having a life long relationship. Romeo and Juliet are kept apart because of their family feud. Hazel Grace and Augustus are kept from having a lasting relationship due to cancer. In both works, the women do not expect the man to die. Juliet pretends to be dead in order to run away with Romeo, not knowing that he was oblivious to her plan and would kill himself.
For example,“Though I am old with wandering Through hollow lands and hilly lands, I will find out where she has gone”(line 17-19). This means he will do whatever it takes until he finds the glimmering girl that he loves. The reason it will make his life better is that all he wanted was love and to finally have it would be amazing. Next it states, ”And kiss her lips and take her hands” (line 19-20) Meaning he really loves her and needs to find her.
Ghost figures in literature are usually metaphors for the past. In some cases their presence is not meant to haunt or terrify, but rather remind living characters of certain events or feelings, thus creating a link between the living and the dead. This link can provide insight for the living character. In both Homer’s, Odyssey and Vergil’s, Aeneid, the main characters are confronted by the ghost of people from their past. It is in these appearances were both, Odysseus and Aeneas, hear from their deceased loved ones and their contrasting views toward death.
Aeneas relationship between parent and child is very important. The Aeneid, it seems, is filled with characters that are somehow related to another, creating quite the family tree to try to follow. The theme of parent-child relationship is prevalent in the Aeneid. The most easily noticeable examples of this type of relationship are between Aeneas and his son, Ascanius and his father, Anchises. One reason fathers are so important in the Aeneid is because of Anchise,s participation in the transfer of knowledge and power.
Aeneas is seen as a model of piety, but he is living in a sinful relationship with his mistress Dido, the queen of Carthage. In The Confessions, St. Augustine tells of his spiritual journey from his adolescence when he had no interest in virtue or Christianity
The Odyssey revolves around a household without its master, Odysseus, who has been lost for 10 years. Despite that, Agamemnons’ death by his faithless wife isn’t the main focus of the Odyssey, but it is still frequently mentioned. Aegisthus can be thought of as the suitors who are seen at the beginning of the Odyssey feasting and sipping wine all day. His affair with Clytemnestra, his murder of Agamemnon and then later on, his death by Agamemnons’ son Orestes, foreshadows the inevitable death waiting to consume the suitors’ lives for their efforts to destroy Odysseus household. The stories set up is similar in a way that there are two returning heroes, Agamemnon and Odysseus, their sons, Orestes and Telemachus, and their wives, Clytemnestra and Penelope respectively.

After six days with the harlot, Enkidu realizes he lost his strength. The harlot gets him to join civilization, so he becomes a normal human. He is treated like a royal until Gilgamesh defeats him in battle. After that Gilgamesh and Enkidu become friends and fight in battles together until Enkidu suddenly dies. Gilgamesh does not want the same fate, so he goes looking for eternal life but dies anyway.
Odysseus is the heroic character from The Odyssey by Homer, and Aeneas is the heroic character from The Aeneid by Virgil. Both men had fought on opposite sides of the Trojan War, a war fought at Troy. Odysseus fought for Greece, while Aeneas fought for Rome. Along with these basic things, the two heroes do have similarities, as well as differences. Both Odysseus and Aeneas are on a journey to get to home.
Juno proves love is power, but later love is abused through romance. In the beginning of Book II, Aeneas is very willing to discuss his past with Dido. Dido listens patiently to Aeneas, while he reveals his past. Aeneas even mentions a beautiful vision of his mother, “my gracious mother stood there before me; and across the night she gleamed with pure light, unmistaken goddess, as lovely and as tall as she appeared” (Virgil, Aeneid 2.795-298). Aeneas throughout Book III is still talking about his encounter with the Trojans.
