The life of Julius Caesar and his assassination was a lot different than Abraham Lincoln but somewhat comparable. These two individuals both came from two very different time periods. When Julius Caesar was born Rome was still a republic and the empire was not even an empire yet. Julius Caesar was a leader in republic and the people are were involved with the decisions. Therefore, Julius Ceasar had most of the power in his country and was able to form a large army. As time went on Caesar began to develop more power over the years. Caesar made his way to praetorship by 62 BC and many of the senate felt he was a dangerous, ambitious man. Abraham Lincoln’s life fell into politics after being elected as a Whig to the Illinois legislature in 1834. Unlike Julius Caesar, Lincoln had to debate against his opponent seven times in what became known as the Lincoln-Douglas Debates. They actually agreed on many issues,but they disagreed over the morality of slavery; Lincoln was not a fan of slavery. Much like Cesar, everyone looked up to Lincoln. In 1862, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which allowed him to free all the slaves in the southern states. Both Caesar and Lincoln wanted to make changes in their county and did. Just like Julius Caesar, Lincoln’s enemies grew from the southern states that did not to change. The civil war can also be compared to the war of Julius Caesar. Both the Civil War and Caesar’s war lasted five years and was won by both men. On April 14, 1865, Lincoln was assassinated while attending a play at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C. John Wilkes Booth shot him in the back of the head before jumping onto the stage and escaping. Lincoln died on April 15th.
