The poem “Woodchucks” by Maxine Kuman and the poem “The Fish” by Elizabeth Bishop give the reader two examples about how man interacts with nature. Charles Darwin wrote “the love for all living creatures is the most noble attribute of man”; it is clear that the narrator of one of the poems is much more noble than that of the narrator in the other poem. Not only do the narrators contrast each other in the two poems, the poems also differ in the theme, tone, and situation (Citr). The theme of the poem “Woodchucks” is no regard for the life of living creatures and death.
Luther was the pioneer of Reformation in the 16th century. Bonhoeffer was a German Lutheran pastor in the 20th century. I am a fan of Bonhoeffer because one year ago, I read one of his articles talking about the church’s attitude (as well as the Christian’ attitude) to Christian Jews. In the time under Hitler’s control, when almost all the people in Germany were brain-washed by the Nazi thinking and were full of hatred for the Jews, he asked the churches to accept those Christian Jews. It may be easy to love our neighbors, but it is hard to love our enemies.

As I have been reading Night, Real Time, and Long Way Gone I have seen things that relate to our lives today like the situation with all of the characters in each of these books trying to survive in there circumstance that they are in. I feel like I live each day trying to thank god for waking me up and going on with my days just like what the characters of “Night” and “Long Way Gone” with the different characters situation they had to face in order to survive and improve themselves. From the particular situation with friends and family with the discussion of understanding the story a little bit better than what I have found about the story was with my teacher Mrs.Smith and her understandings of what I should do in order to understand the books we have read.
The African American Spokesperson Fredrick Douglass was an abolitionist, who became the 19th century author an orator(bio). Mr.Douglass was an human rights leader in the anti-slavery movement and he wrote several autobiographies explaining his experiences in slavery (bio). Also, he wrote about his life after the civil war. On the other hand, Fredrick Douglass was similar in many ways to Wells and Douglass, but W.E.B had different views of equality that fredrick. Du Bois believed in urging blacks to accept segregation and focus on lifting themselves through hard work and visible prosperity.
Willy Loman and Walter Lee Younger are two different people, in two different worlds with almost the same type of problems. The struggles between the Younger and Lomans is quite a twist for some people but if given a chance can be unraveled to see how much love and care is actually put into the meaning of family. First is Willy and how his life is being changed by his memory and struggle to keep up on payments. Second is Walter struggling with his drinking problem and trying to keep his temper in check to tell a certain white man to leave and that they are keeping the house they bought. Lastly is the difference in their struggles that they have to face in order to survive and handle in order to keep their family together.
Richard Wright and Zora Neal Hurston learn many different things in their autobiographical pieces. Richard Wright and Zora Neal Hurston were both African American and they both grew up in the south. Richard Wright was born on a plantation near Natchez, Mississippi, and then he moved to Memphis. Zora Neale Hurston grew up in Eatonville, Florida which was the first incorporated African-American community in the United States.
As one begins to read, he/she notices that Longfellow incorporates his own style to increase the interest of his poem. After reading, the reader understands that the authors use their own stylistic techniques, such as figurative language, to make their writing more distinct and
Yusef Komunyakaa and William Wordsworth both describe nature in the most pure of human methods: through direct observation. However, there is a very different perspective in which these two poets are describing their experiences. Wordsworth exudes a sense of nostalgia describing nature as pure and utterly beautiful. Komunyakaa, on the other hand, is reminded of the horrors in nature, particularly due to pollution and what its effects were. For such contrasting experiences of nature, there seems to be an injustice in play here, which seems to contribute to these very contrasting differences on the environment.
Tragedy has been a part of drama since the time of the ancient greeks, an example of such a tragedy is Oedipus Rex by Sophocles. Since then tragedy has been adapted to adhere to different societal views and conventions, such that of the american theatre. Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, is an example of that. Both plays fall into the category of tragedy, but exemplify it through different aspects in their respective heroes. The roles of Oedipus and Willy Loman as tragic heroes convey the meanings of the works as wholes through the use of the literary devices dramatic irony and imagery.
In this paper is going to discuss and compare how George Simmel’s the stranger is parallel to "W. E. B." Du Bois’s double consciousness. How each theory or term are similar and different. Both theorists talks be an outsider one way or the other. Either by society or W.E.B Du Bois wrote "The souls of Black Folk" in 1903. The book explained the effects of racism on African Americans and how they view themselves.
Romantic poets always love and write about nature. For example, in Shelley's poem, “Ozymandias,” he talks of how nature will always win in the end. The leader Ozymandias was grand, had amazing builds and feats, but after a few hundred years, it was all as if he had never existed. Everything that he had ever made was just erased by nature, almost in an ironic sort of way. In Leonard Pitt’s, “Sometimes the Earth is Cruel,” he talks of the poor luck given to a small nation that is completely unavoidable.
Two scholarly writers brilliantly conveyed nature in their own opinion, an essay written by John Miller called, ”The Calypso Borealis," and a poem by William Wordsworth called, "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud.” Both authors created work that acquires their idea of the beauty of nature while showing their compassion and love for nature. They each endured the essence in their own way. Each author also used their memory as descriptive imagery to creative share the scenery and amazement of their experience. Each individual has their own personal opinion about nature and how they decide to express their feelings can be diverse, and both authors, John Muir and William Wordsworth, expressed their compassion and love for nature in their own way.
And nature to the poet is not just merely trees, grass, and leaves, as Emerson explains, it is also the railroad laid on the tracks of mother earth. Nature will adapt to such structures just as the “children” will adapt to nature and nature to humankind and human’s ideas and creations such as the railroad, and later the
In this poem Henry Longfellow describes a seaside scene in which dawn overcomes darkness, thus relating to the rising of society after the hardships of battle. The reader can also see feelings, emotions, and imagination take priority over logic and facts. Bridging the Romantic Era and the Realism Era is the Transcendental Era. This era is unusual due to it’s overlapping of both the Romantic and Realism Era. Due to its coexistence in two eras, this division serves as a platform for authors to attempt to establish a new literary culture aside from the rest of the world.
