In Shakespeare’s tragic play Macbeth, the tragic hero Macbeth will do anything to obtain power. Although Macbeth was written in the 1600’s, we can see parallels between Shakespeare’s classic play and modern day. This is seen by making connections with ourselves, with other text and events that happen in our world.
Firstly, the leadership position that Macbeth is given is alike to when I help at Brownies. In both cases, we were given the leadership role because a person in a higher power than us gave us a leadership role. In Brownies, I have a responsibility to look after the children and help them earn badges. In Macbeth, Macbeth was given the role of Thane of Cawdor by the king for being a brave, loyal soldier. In Macbeth, Lady Macbeth plans the murder of Duncan and pins the murder on the guards. Likewise, Annalise does the same thing by pinning the murder of her husband, committed by her students, on someone else. Lady Macbeth pins the murder on the guards and convinces Macbeth that that he will feel no guilt by saying “What not put upon/ his spongy officers, who shall bear the guilt/ of our great quell?” (1.7. 70-72). This quote proves that she plans on pinning the murder of Duncan on the guards and convinces Macbeth that he’ll feel no quilt protecting him from the consequences of guilt. Similarly, Annalise pins the murder of her husband on another person to protect her students from the feeling of guilt and the consequences of their actions. Lady Macbeth and Annalise also care for the people they are trying to protect. Lady Macbeth cares for Macbeth by helping Macbeth fulfill his prophecies given to him by the witches as well as helping him when he was having hallucinations of Banquo by saying “This is the very painting of your fear” (3.4. 61). While Annalise cares for the security of her students. The actions of Lady Macbeth planning to pin the murder of Duncan on the guards and her caring ways towards Macbeth may be compared to the way that Annalise cares for and protects her students when they murdered her husband.
