Hate. It’s something that we all have in ourselves. No matter who you are or what kind of person you are you have hate. But it’s how we control our hate that makes us who we are. This is very well shown in “No More Dead Dogs” by Gordon Korman and the book “Ball Don’t Lie” by Matt de la Pena. In “No More Dead Dogs” Wallace Wallace was known as the hero who won the championship for his team. He was only a benchwarmer and the coach had thrown him in the game. This caused some kids who didn’t watch or care for football (like the kids in the play) to hate him because all he did to win it was dive on a fumble in the end zone while they worked hard every day to become the hero and don’t get respect. But they also show this in different ways than one another. While “No More Dead Dogs” uses more dialogue to show hatred, “Ball Don’t Lie” shows more revealing actions. When Sticky was playing defense on Rob and since Rob was mad that Sticky was better than him at basketball because Sticky was white he decides to drive to the hoop and “elbow Sticky in the face causing the skin under his eye to rip”(Pena 215). This is showing how Rob thought that since Sticky was better than him at basketball he thought the only way to get make people think he was stronger than Sticky was to drive the lane and elbow Sticky in the face. Although “No More Dead Dogs” shows hate as well, the author uses it with more dialogue. When Wallace Wallace was trying to improve the play everyone was denying him “because we hate and think he’ll ruin the play(Korman 97). Even though Wallace Wallace was trying to help they wouldn’t let him just because of they were letting their hatred get the best of them, and maybe even they may be scared that Wallace might make it
