It can be suppressed or hidden, it can deceive and consume. By being human, the struggle between good and evil can wreck the mind or thrive with power. The pull to the good side makes you question yourself, while the dark side thrums with excitement. Each evil act can tip the balance of the world, resulting in dire consequences. Both Lady Macbeth and Ralph struggled to stay true to themselves, all while trying to go down the right path.

Initially, both characters were inherently good. When Ralph first landed on the island, he threw off his clothes and opened his arms to the possibilities of freedom. However, not long after, he becomes the responsible leader of the pack of boys. He’s the good leader but with good comes evil and the pull begins. Lady Macbeth, on the other hand, was introduced with her pull almost immediately. The letter her husband, Macbeth, sent her, informed her of the witches prophecy for Macbeth to become King. Her thoughts were easily swayed. Without hesitation, she asked to be filled with evil and thought about killing Duncan, which would easily make Macbeth King in his stead. Each …show more content…

Ralph ultimately became the only uncorrupted boy on the island. However he was so focused on staying alive, evil ran amuck and the balance was thrown into chaos. At the same time, Lady Macbeth watched as the world she lived in was thrown into pandemonium, all because she let herself be overtaken by her own evil desires. Just like on the island, Lady Macbeth’s balance was tipped toward evil. Eventually, like all natural things, a hero apparead to return the worlds upheaval back to normal. For Ralph, that hero was an officer in the navy and for Lady Macbeth, although she never got to see it, that was
