The Shakespearean play, Romeo and Juliet and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, demonstrate that choosing acts of hatred over compassion can cause consequences that intervene with death, relationships and neighborhoods. From Romeo and Juliet and To Kill a Mockingbird, the characters who chose to respond to situations with resentment lead to the loss of other lives. During Aunt Alexandia’s missionary society meeting she is interrupted by her brother, Atticus Finch with the news of his client, Tom Robinson's death. Atticus delivers the devastating news,“They shot him (…) he was running. It was during their exercise period. They said he just broke into a blind raving charge at the fence and started climbing over” (Lee 239). Tom Robinson, a Black man who was accused of rape of a white woman, was a innocent victom who’s death was a result of Bob Ewells false and racist accusations against Tom. Mercutio says his last words cursing the houses, “Ask for me tomorrow, and you shall find me a grave man. I am peppered, I warrant, for this world. A plague o’ both your houses” (3.1.99-104)!
