Have you ever watched a movie and you think “Hey, this movie is like another movie that I have watched?” That's what Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story have in common, they are both very similar in most aspects and different in some aspects. Romeo and Juliet takes place in fifteenth century Verona, Italy. While West Side Story takes place in twentieth century West side Manhattan. Although the settings of these tragic love stories are vastly different, the parallel characters and plot elements of both stories help to develop the theme of love. Many characters are similar and different in both stories. Tybalt and Bernardo are one of many examples. One of the examples is that they are both very violent people. The first plot parallel between the two stories is the plans. The plans are different but also pretty similar. The plans are similar in both plans, the lovers planned to run away and get married. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo meets Juliet on her balcony and Romeo tells Juliet that he wants to marry her. Juliet then says that she will send Nurse to Friar Lawrence’s cell at nine in the morning. Nurse then gets Romeo and then Juliet and Romeo get married in Friar Lawrence’s cell. Then they tried to run away together but then Tybalt shows up and tries to fight Romeo, then Tyablt kills Mercutio and Romeo kills Tybalt after Tybalt kills Mercutio. After Romeo kills Tybalt, the Prince shows up and banishes Romeo, ruing the original plan.Once Romeo is banished, Friar Lawrence and Juliet come up with a new plan but that gets messed up because the letter did not get delivered to Romeo. In West Side Story Tony and Maria meet outside of Maria’s room and they vow to run away together and get married. Maria tells Tony that she will meet him at Doc's Drugstore so they can run away together. While at Doc’s, Tony gets fake news that Maria died. When Tony gets the news, he runs out screaming for Chino to come and kill him. When Chino finally finds him, Maria comes out from behind a building and runs for Tony. Chino comes from behind him and shoots him with a revolver. Tony then dies in Marias arms and Maria
