Someone once said, “ Life is a war, with blood shed and hate, but in that hate, love and warmth grows in the corner to show you, you are not alone.” This relates to Sal and Phoebe greatly, because of their similarities in their life, and their moms leaving, and them thinking the same way. In the book Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, the struggles Phoebe faces in subplot are similar to the struggles that Sal faces in the plot. One of the significant struggles in both Sal and Phoebe’s lives is that both moms are sad and their daughters don’t notice. Both Prudence and Sal don’t realize that their moms are sad, and carry on with their day, like nothing's bothering them. Phoebe says, “If Mom comes back while I’m at Sal’s? Will you call me? Will you let me know?” “Of course.” “Or what if she telephones? Maybe I should stay home. I think I should be here if she calls,” pg (151). She is doing this because she has never had anything wrong in her life, her mom is there for her always, and when Phoebe loses that she starts basing off her actions off of the hope that mom will be home right now. Sal says, “ Still, when she left, this I did. I visualize her reaching for the phone. Then I visualized her dialing the phone. I visualized our phone clicking through the wires. I visualized the phone ringing. It did not ring. I visualized her riding the bus back to Bybanks. I visualized her walking up the driveway. I visualized her opening the door. It did not happen,” pg (184). Sal is different, she knows that her mom is dead, and she still fantasized about her mom. When she says she visualized her mom, she is still not letting go, she is still doing this because their is part of her that doesn’t want to let
