They say three aspects of a thriving society are where we’re from, who we know, and how we think. On the flip side of that coin, these very same aspects can ironically be our undoing. That delicate balance can be the difference between a life in prison and a life dedicated to others. In a society notorious for its oblivious politicians, questionable educational system, and money hungry big corporations, this senseless quote made by the forty-third president of the United States George W. Bush, is only one of the many incidents validating Moore’s claim that we as Americans lack sufficient articulation and education. If there could be a spokesperson for criticizing American politicians, the educational system, globalization, large corporations, the war in Iraq, and many other debatable issues, American author of “Idiot Nation”, Michael Moore would be the ideal candidate.
The mayor explained to Goldberg that there is epidemic going on and how we shouldn’t accept these norms when we see these violent acts happening all the time, instead of being a bystander, we should rise against it. When looking at the people incarcerated, the author shifts our attention to Angola known as America’s largest maximum security prison. The warden of Angola is Burl Cain, in the interviews with Cain, Goldberg gets to understand how Cain is trying to give the inmates a chance in life by trying to make them be useful to society and making them realize that violence isn’t the only way to let your anger out. He used the term “moral rehabilitation,” where inmates work at plantations and provide locally grown food for the prison. They both have remarkable and one-of-a-kind styles of writing. To My Dear and Loving Husband and Sonnet 18 both share a theme of time. These works of literature have become well-known and classic for their strong professions of love.

Experiences which allow an individual to discover can uncover what is concealed and for perceptions to be challenged and changed. This concept is explored in William Shakespeare’s play The Tempest and Thomas Buchanan Read’s poem Church’s “Heart of the Andes” in different ways. The courtiers from The Tempest are forcibly displaced into Prospero’s magical island which reflects the context of Age of Exploration. Church’s “Heart of the Andes” similarly portray the same idea of western explorers discovering the New World. The new ideas and changed values that result from the discovery can be seen in Shakespeare’s play as Prospero changes his character and attitude as he learns about forgiveness and mercy.
