The Tang dynasty was one of the greatest dynasties in chinese history. The Tang dynasty had taken over the Sui dynasty, meaning the Sui dynasty might not have been listening to the mandate of heaven. The mandate of heaven said that if you did not treat your people the right way, you will be overthrown by a new dynasty, and the Sui dynasty was overthrown by the Tang dynasty.(mandate of heaven) The Tang dynasty had a population of about fifty million people, which was big during this time. The Tang dynasty made important technological advances in woodblock printing, timekeeping, mechanical engineering, cartography, and alchemy.

In both the Song and Tang dynasties, different types of art expanded throughout their period of Prosperity. These types of art were landscape paintings and pottery. Another thing the two dynasties have in common is that they both follow the Confucianism way of ruling China.
Both of these dynasties are very similar, especially the fact that both were culturally rich and known to be “Golden Ages” in Chinese history. Both of these dynasties saw many advances in technology, with the invention of the compass and paper. Trade with other countries was a major occurrence during both the Han and Song Dynasty. Another factor that connects these two dynasties is the fact that they both use a common written language for those who were educated. The examination taken in order to receive a government position that was started during the Han Dynasty was also used during the Song Dynasty, so that people born into class were not automatically given government positions, but those who were intellectual and capable to hold a position were given the opportunity.
