This time period was the beginning of manny enlighten minds and critical thinkers that thrusted our understanding forward Adam Smith was a British philosopher and economist who lived from (1723 - 90). He was the first serious attempt to study the nature of capital and the historical development of industry and commerce. He attended the universities of Glasgow and Oxford. Smith was appointed professor of logic in 1751 and then professor of moral philosophy in 1752 at the University of Glasgow. In 1763 he resigned from the university to accept the position of tutor to Henry Scott, 3d duke of Buccleuch (1746–1812), Smith served as commissioner of customs in Edinburgh from 1778 until his death.
