In Ray Bradbury's “Fahrenheit 451”, the character Guy Montag is similar to the prisoner in “The Allegory of the Cave” because, Montag and the Prisoner were brought into the world with forced opinions and thoughts that shaped how they feel and think. Both Montag and the prisoner had nothing to look back on that showed a different opinion, so they were both stuck to believe anyone at face-value. These forced opinions however, were later changed after they were revealed by a character (the old man or Faber) and caused them to shed a whole new set of skin.

In both of the cases, the author and the director used to method of symbolism to help them get their purpose across to the readers. Many objects in both of the stories were given a meaning and an assumed understanding of what it is symbolising. Shadows is something that is presented in both of the cases, in The Allegory of the Cave there were objects that walked past the fire behind the prisoners, which gave out shadows to the prisoners to see. The shadows represented the truth that was not allowed to be seen by the prisoners but was able to get a small sense of what it is. In The Truman Show, there was a character who played the role of the shadow for Truman.
The Connection Between Fahrenheit 451 and “Allegory of the Cave” Ray Bradbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451, is clearly written with the intention of paralleling the themes of Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave”. It is no accident that Fahrenheit 451 shares similar story elements with the allegory. Both stories are similar in that they both have: a group of captives who believe a certain axiom, a person who deviates from that group to enlighten himself, and a violent reaction when the person returns to tell of his new views. In Fahrenheit 451, Montag is most like the prisoner. While entertainment, namely television, keeps society in captivity, Montag is free from those things.

In the epic poem, the Odyssey, Odysseus is the true definition of knowledgeable by the way he gets through the struggles of his life. This common theme, knowledge, is important in Fahrenheit 451 and the Odyssey; they have many differences and things in common when dealing with this.

And instead of having firemen that put out fire, the firemen start the fire to burn down books and houses. If closely looked at further, a couple of differences can be spotted as well. Allegory of the Cave, a short story by renowned philosopher Plato, describes the life of prisoners chained inside of a cave where all the knowledge they receive is given by unknown strangers behind them. It continues to elaborate on their transition from a lackluster world where they were truly in the dark to one that completely surpasses all expectations. Likewise, Stranger Than Fiction, a movie written by Zach Helm, illustrates an IRS auditor, Harold Crick, that is shackled by his mundane lifestyle and also has an embodied voice that seems to be controlling his life. The movie goes on to describe his arduous journey toward finding the woman behind the voice, which ultimately gives him a new perspective on life. Zach Helm’s screenplay Stranger Than Fiction and Plato’s Allegory of the Cave both describe the experience of a person escaping limited perspective darkness and discovering a more complex world than they had previously thought existed.
Education, a life-altering event that involves the development of being more open- minded. When one’s horizons expand they begin to have a shift of perception. The process of becoming knowledgeable through education can differ from the individual or situation. It can also have one acquire gratitude for their change of insight. Two passages, “Learning to Read” by Malcom X and “The Allegory of the Cave” by Plato, each contain an individual who goes through the path of gaining wisdom.
Fahrenheit 451, 1984, and “The Allegory of the Cave” are similar in the way they criticize society for making people conform to their superficial norms. In Fahrenheit 451, everyone is restricted from books and expected to enjoy TV and be “social.” For example, Clarisse was looked down upon and thought of as an outcast for being “antisocial. ”1984 takes place in a dystopian society where freedom of thought is nonexistent. “And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed – if all records told the same tale – then the lie passed into history and became truth Citizens must accept all the lies and standards of the Party” (Orwell, 1984, Book One, Chapter 3).
In “1984” and “Allegory of the Cave”, there are several connections to be drawn, Winston Smith, the protagonist is very similar to the philosopher from the cave because he’s like a freed prisoner that is not aware of the things he sees every day. The people of Oceania are willing to abide by the laws of their government because they know that they are under the watchful eye of Big Brother; Winston doesn’t understand why he’s uncomfortable with his daily life until he slowly begins to question the world around him and becomes aware of the blatant and control of his society. In both, “1984” and “Allegory of the Cave”, Winston's story is a person who attempts to leave the cave, sharing certain Inner Party lies and begins to question and seek
African American children, especially those with disabilities, provide an easy outlet for the police and campus security to act upon their white supremacist beliefs. In the case of Madisyn Wordlow, she was punished based on the security guard’s idea that he was “teaching her a f------ lesson” (qtd in Boroff). She had not actually stolen a piece of candy, but that did not matter to the guard. From his perspective, this was the perfect opportunity to humiliate and degrade an African American girl. He went on a power trip and belittled a child for their skin color, turning accusations about stealing a piece of candy into an event that scarred Wordlow for life.
