Edgar Allan Poe is known for writing some great stories and poems. William Blake has also written some great poems. In this essay, Edgar wrote The Cask of Amontillado while William wrote A Poison Tree. Now between this story and this poem, there are a lot of things that they have in common. Some of these similarities include similarities about characters, character traits and so much more. One of the similarities between the story and the poem is that both have at least two characters that have some bad blood between each other. In The Cask of Amontillado, there are two characters named Montresor and Fortunato that are friends but also enemies. For example: Montresor said, “The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge.” This means that Montresor keeps on trying to injure Fortunato even though he has injured him many times before just because of one insult. There is also two characters in A Poison Tree that don’t really get along very well. In the poem, the narrator “I was angry with my foe: I told it not, my wrath did grow.” This means even though the narrator won’t let out his wrath upon his foe, his wrath will still grow until he decides to release it. …show more content…

In A Poison Tree, the narrator stated that he “waterd it in fears, night and morning with my tears.” This means that he cried every morning and night due to the fear of releasing his wrath upon his foe. The Cask of Amontillado also had something to do with tears. For Example: when Fortunato was talking to Montresor, “He turned towards me, and looked into my eyes with two filmy orbs that distilled the rheum of intoxication.” This means that when Fortunato was talking to Montresor, Montresor knew Fortunato had too much alcohol in his system because Fortunato had tears coming out of his eyes due to the amount of alcohol in his
