Over the course of years, there have been rules that were set up to keep controls in place. Without any laws, there are no rights or wrongs. It takes rules to keep civilizations on the right track. The Code of Hommurabi was one of the first of its kind. “This dates back to the 1700BCE, when King Hammurabi took control of Mesopotamia.” (Hall IV 105) The idea of an “eye for an eye” “a tooth for a tooth” can be traced back to his laws. In this new way of equal justice that can be found today in the United States Constitution. With the Code of Hommurabi, it was an influence and a draft to what the U.S. Constitution was to be, as they share many similarities and differences in them. Constitution and the Code of Hammurabi have the same ideas and goals, but have some very distinct differences. The Constitution was created some 11 years after the United States declared there independence from the British. The Founding Fathers created this document it was “for the people” and “by the people” that told the peoples that it is “natural to have theses God-given right.” (Watson 118) Unlike the Code of Hammurabi the Constitution was written by a group of men know of days know as are “Founding Fathers” set out to create a document that lade out what the rights to the people where, and what role government should play in there life.
