The Crucible and 12 Angry Men are both, excellent examples of instances when justice is fragile. One individual’s decision could be life or death in these cases. The only person who knows if they are guilty or not for certain is the suspect, unless there is factual proof. During jury duty, the jurors could just be focused on getting the job done so they can leave and do their evening activities. For the suspect, it was his fate.
In Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible written by Arthur Miller and in M. Night Shyamalan's film, The Village both contain examples of jealousy transforming a character demeanor. In The Crucible, Abigail desires John Proctor so profoundly that she wants his wife dead and she attempted by convicting her of witchcraft. Abigail affirms that her name is “white” in the town; however, she initiated the Salem Witch Trials as a result of her longing for Proctor. An illustration of this concept is when Abigail complains to Proctor that, “She blackening my name in the village! She is telling lies about me!

Main differences that are seen in the play and comparison of the movie are the time lengths, The play is longer then the movie and there can also be differences in the setting of the play. The setting of the play takes place in a room filled with audience, The movie takes place in various locations throughout the entire movie. There are obvious differences in the location setting by two audiences seeing the full story by either a play or a film version. Certain differences between the play and the movie are the characters, there is a big difference in a few characters
Compare&Contrast The movie “Just Ask My Children” and “The Crucible” are similar to each other in many ways. In “The Crucible’, the girls did not want to get in trouble for dancing in the forest and conjuring spirits so when it came to the courtroom they started blaming other people .
The Crucible was about the Salem Witch Trials. The duration of these “trials” were a time of general revenge based on jealousy, lust, and possibly the effects of ergot poisoning. More than two hundred men and women were accused of witchcraft. Twenty of which were executed, along with one man being brutally pressed to death for not admitting to witchcraft. These “trials” could very well have been started because of jealousy.
They lied and manipulated the court into believing their stories. They did this for lots of reasons. One was because females were not allowed many rights let alone any power in their city. Through the witch trials and lies they gained power in Salem. Also, they were trying to win over lovers by accusing their wives and getting them hung.
The poem "To My Dear and Loving Husband", and parts of the play "The Crucible" have many similarities. In the poem Bradstreet states her love for her husband, and how she'd rather not live than live without him. For example, she says, "That when we live no more, we may live ever." This statement shows how much love she has for her husband, and how she couldn't go without him. This relates to "The Crucible" because both of the stories show their love for their significant other.
Cameron Oldfield Mrs. Brincks English III 15 November, 2015 The Crucible and Red Scare Imagine being thrown in jail, blamed for something that you didn't do .The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, is a story about how certain propaganda and false accusations can ruin lives, just like in the case of the Red Scare. Although 1692 the Salem witch trials and the Red Scare were over 200 years apart, The similarities are striking. both trials used intimidation, fear, hatred, and false accusations to ruin innocent lives. Both trials resulted in terrible outcomes, with both ending with innocent people being put to death and shunned from society.
The two subjects that i will be comparing today are “The Crucibles” and “The Dying Girl That No One Helped”. Both of the stories are similar in many different ways but also have many differences. “The Crucibles” is about a town named salem where the town minister found a group of girls practicing witchcraft including his niece Abigail. Abigail and the group of girls started accusing everybody of practicing witchcraft to deflect blame from themselves. Reverend Proctor being the one accusing the girls of witchcraft, would be questioned for having witchcraft at his own home.
Also, since The Crucible was written to be parallel to McCarthyism, the same idea is shown. The same situation can be seen in The Crucible as Arthur Miller was influenced by the events that occurred during McCarthyism. In the Crucible, anyone whose name that had been mentioned underwent an investigation and was asked to prove that they were not partaking in witchcraft. Because this task was impossible, the court made rash decisions such as sending people to jail or sentencing them to be hanged. This scenario is seen in the crucible when Rebecca Nurse is accused.
When people are placed under an intense feeling of fear, they begin to commit actions they never thought they were capable over. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, a young group of girls commit witchcraft which eventually leads to the arrest of over 100 women. This is similar to a time in the 1950s when Joseph McCarthy accuses government officials of communism and that ultimately leads to hundreds of citizens losing their jobs. The Crucible reveals the similarities between The Salem Witch Trials of the 1690s and McCarthyism of the 1950s because it demonstrates how a society can be tremendously impacted by the feeling the fear.
The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a dramatic play that expresses a very important message and that is how far people would go to save themselves from the hands of death. There are many characters in the Crucible who are guilty of taking innocent lives, but there are three major characters who, without a doubt, are the most at blame. The play takes place in the city of Salem, a city filled with people that would do anything to keep their reputation clean. Throughout the play, Miller is introducing multiple characters that experience changes in their decisions and negatively influence more people eventually leading up to the witch trials. The main point that the story revolves around is that people would rather lie and blame someone else instead of confessing and accepting the punishment.

The people of Salem were Puritans and very religious so they associated witchcraft and anything impure or evil with the Devil. When the witch hysteria, which was initially caused by girls falsely accusing others, got out-of-hand, the residents of Salem conformed to the hysteria out of fear because those who were accused were intimated certainty to death. The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, is about real life events that has been changed a bit by the author. The play is set back in 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts, were the Salem Witchcraft Trials were going on. The Witchcraft Trials were trials that mostly girls, but some men got accused of seeing the devil and doing work for him. If you were accused of being a witch you were to admit to seeing the devil, accuse other people, or you would get hung. Some people wouldn 't admit to being a witch just to save their life because of their faith in Jesus.
Lies, Pressure, and Reputation. Arthur Miller's “The Crucible” and Chinua Achebe's “ Things Fall Apart” have more in common than meets the eye. The main characters in these stories, Abigail Williams and Okonkwo, both have a reputation to uphold and both have a significant effect on their community. Although the goals they had set for themselves were not met, they were able to impact their community in momentous ways.
