This compares how the Usher twins both suffered from sickness and caused one another's death from their fears. In “ The Devil and Tom Walker'' Tom always feared his wife because she was very abusive towards him and others. Washington Irving used mood and foreshadowing in his story. Whereas Edgar Allan Poe uses mood and symbolism to explain his story.
