“With guns you can kill terrorists, with education you can kill terrorism” -Malala Yousafzai. Author of I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban, Malala Yousafzai, shows in both this quote and her book, that with education, the very thing the Taliban are trying to take away, people can do anything. The Taliban constantly tricked people who weren’t educated in Arabic with the words of the Quran. The Taliban even stated that in the Quran, it says that singing and dancing were sinful acts, but clearly they are not. In addition, they also stated that it was not right to go to school and get an education. But, through Malala we learn that the Taliban were making up these lies, “The Quran says we should seek knowledge, …show more content…
They were able to do this because many people weren’t educated. Even more people did not know Arabic, and the Taliban took advantage of that. This was shown when Malala said “Mullahs often misinterpret the Quran and the Hadith when they teach them in our country, as few people understand the original Arabic. Fazlullah exploited this ignorance” (Yousafzai 113). This proves that Muslim leaders, would “misinterpret the Quran”, and Fazlullah, the Taliban’s leader, “exploited this ignorance”, which means that he took advantage of the people who didn’t “understand the original Arabic”. This shows how the Taliban were able to use the people’s ignorance to their own benefit. Adding on, not only did the Muslims believe the Taliban, but they also thought that the Taliban were good people and they were good interpreters of the Quran. For example, “People thought that he was a good interpreter of the Holy Quran and admired his charisma. They liked his talk of bringing back Islamic law as everyone was frustrated with the Pakistani justice system, which had replaced ours when we were merged into the country” (Yousafzai 113). In this quote it is shown that Fazlullah was thought to be “a good interpreter of the Holy Quran” and people “admired his charisma”. Therefore people thought he was a good person and interpreter. Which comes to show just how brainwashed …show more content…
They dictated the way that women should act and dress in public. For example, women weren’t allowed to laugh out loud. As Malala said, “He said that the Taliban had then banned women from laughing out loud...” (Yousafzai 67). This shows how women were banned “from laughing out loud”, even though it is a normal thing to do. They were also not allowed to sing or dance in public, even if it was her job. Malala shows this by giving an example of a young woman who was killed for singing and dancing, “I promise I’ll stop! I promise I won’t sing and dance again. Leave me, for God’s sake! I am a woman, a Muslim. Don’t kill me!” (Yousafzai 147). This demonstrates that even though she was “a woman, a Muslim” she was killed for singing and dancing. She even said, “I promise I won’t sing and dance again” but she was still killed for normal actions. Adding on, even though this girl died, people still sided with the Taliban, even her family members. In addition, not only did the Taliban tell women how to act, they also told women what to wear and what not to wear, “... wearing white shoes as white was a color that belonged to men! Women were being locked up and beaten just for wearing nail varnish.” (Yousafzai 67). In the U.S. girls as young as two wear nail polish. But in Pakistan women were “being locked up and beaten” just for wearing something that anyone could wear in the United States. Adding on, the quote also says
