“We gained control of many things. But we had to let go of others” (Lowry). In other words, this means that to get what you want, you have to get rid of other things you have. Although there are many similarities between The Giver and our society, there are a lot more differences like families, rules, and personal freedoms. For starters there are many differences with families between their society and our society. In the same way we have mothers, fathers, and children, this is the only similarity between our societies. The difference is, families are assigned in The Giver and you are allowed only one boy and one girl. In this subject we have no similarities whatsoever. In their world they choose your career, and what privileges you have. Yet, in our world we get to choose what we want to do for a living, and earn what we 're allowed to do. Another difference between our freedoms is, they don 't allow you to see color. They get rid of emotions they don 't want you to have. Finally, they get rid of many different activities they don 't like. But in our world, we have all these things, and they will never be taken away from us. This was my final example of our differences between The Giver and our society.
