Various components of The Crucible may be related to the Red Scare, more specifically McCarthyism. Senator McCarthy condemned communism and black-listed many famous actors and actresses as communists. When one was blacklisted under Senator McCarthy’s reign, they would never be hired again thus ruining their career and livelihood. This concept may be related to The Crucible as when people were accused as being witches during the Salem Witch Trials in Puritan New England, they would be shunned from the community and ultimately hanged. These women were hanged for being evil, thus connecting to the theme of human wickedness.

In the crucible one of the themes was impacting false accusations. One of the accusations was how Abigail (one of our main characters), accused a poor woman named Sarah good that was a beggar. Abbey accused her of witchery by fainting and saying she saw her spirt. So when they told her that she was going to be hanged if she doesn’t confess she confessed. This shows how the court listened to anyone who “cries witchery”, Sarah was and easy target because she was the lowest class in society.
The Crucible Abigail was a corrupt, cynical, and dishonest character throughout the Salem witch trials. She accused innocent people of the community of Salem of being witches. Most of the time she did this in seek of revenge on the people, but other times she did it so that she wouldn’t get caught for lying. Abigail was not a very old character she was 14-18 years old and still single.

In The Crucible, a lot of characters were not judged fairly. Most of them were jailed or killed and it provided little proof of witchcraft. One character for example was Rebecca Nurse. Rebecca was first brought to trial when her name was brought up into court and so she was brought in to determine if she was capable of witchcraft or not. During the trial, Mary Warren pretended that Rebecca has summoned her soul to choke her.
The poem "To My Dear and Loving Husband", and parts of the play "The Crucible" have many similarities. In the poem Bradstreet states her love for her husband, and how she'd rather not live than live without him. For example, she says, "That when we live no more, we may live ever." This statement shows how much love she has for her husband, and how she couldn't go without him. This relates to "The Crucible" because both of the stories show their love for their significant other.

During these times, anyone who was accused of being a ‘witch’ or suspected of ‘practicing witchcraft’ was sentenced to death or hanged. The trials resulted in the death of twenty people, fourteen of them women, and all but one some by hanging. The witch trials was full of hysteria which caused a lot of chaos, death and accusations in the town of Salem, Massachusetts. In the Arthur Miller’s book The Crucible, the main character Abigail Williams is to blame for the 1692 Salem witch trials in Massachusetts.
In The Crucible, there are many events in which individuals are hurt, both physically and inwardly. Sometimes, were harmed and even killed, and in different cases, individuals' feelings were harmed. Many individuals passed on after a progression of allegations, lies, and brutal demonstrations of envy amid the witch trials in Salem, Massachusetts in the 1600s. A way that The Crucible by Arthur Millar and The Holocaust are related is that one person is the reason for all the fear in The Crucible it was Abigail and in the holocaust it was Hitler. The Crucible also known as the Salem witch trials and the duke lacrosse case were both a turning point in history for America. Both of the events harmed many people in a number of ways. Although the crucible was a lot harsher, they both compare and differentiate in a plethora of ways. For example, they compare because of the lack of evidence used and the false accusations told upon the people. They contrast because of the way the accusers were treated at the end of it, and because of all the lies told.
The Salem Witch Trials can be compared to many historical events around the world. The Holocaust is one of the most compared events to the Salem Witch Trials. These events are brought together by the facts that both of them were tragic and people died horrifically. Neither of these events were handled in a way that was beneficial for their economies. The Holocaust is a modern day “Witch Hunt” that relates to the Salem Witch Trials due to instinctual prejudice and mass hysteria, but differs in religion and the scale of the executions.
