In summary, the slave trade and the slavery itself was indeed a blight in the American nation, due to its toll on individuals. Africans were very vulnerable to the slave trade, as they were the choice of the European colonial powers and expansionists due to their immunity to diseases. As the desirability of wealth and power overwhelmingly grew, African natives traded their own people for manufactured goods. The Africans were treated nothing more than possessions, being abused along their journey to the New World. The enslaved had to suffer through a long, painful journey to the Caribbean, whilst some did not survive due to the poor conditions of the ships provided by the Europeans.
