One example of The Scarlet Ibis and Simon Birch being similar is that they both have similar characters. In Scarlet Ibis, there is a “disappointing” character named Doodle who was not expected to live long. Similarly, in Simon Birch, Simon is an abnormally small boy but still does things normal people do.
In the stories "The Sniper" and "The Scarlet Ibis" explains the relationships between the protagonist and his brother. In the first story "The Sniper" the protagonist and his brother were both in war together. They both were in the dark night of war and they were both in there hiding. The one brother got shot in the arm and then saw someone on a different roof and planned a secret attack. After the secret attack the solider went to see who he shot and sadly found out it was his brother.
The Simon Birch and The Scarlet Ibis stories are the same because the author of both stories uses symbolism. In The Scarlet Ibis the storm and Doodle dying symbolizes how war affects people. Simon Birch is used to symbolize how people are supposed to fulfill their purpose in life and how God has a purpose for everyone. Other symbols are also used to have meanings other than the main idea. In The Scarlet Ibis a red ibis bird dies in Doodle’s yard.
The short stories ¨The Scarlet Ibis¨ and ¨Sucker¨ are very similar to each other. When they both first came to be in their family/new family the two weren't ever called by their real names either they were called by their nicknames or selected a new name. Each short story bears a resemblance to their themes and conflicts. The main characters Sucker & Doodle both had
The lust of battle died in him. He became bitten by remorse" (O'Flaherty, 3). The Sniper starts to realize what he's done and feels extremely guilty. He realizes what he's done but doesn't realize who he's killed," the sniper turned over the dead body and looked into his brother’s face" (O'Flaherty, 3). Suddenly, the Sniper killed his own brother.
The protagonists in The Sniper and The Scarlet Ibis both had a special relationship with their brother. In the first story the sniper and his brother were on different sides. The republican sniper shot his brother who was on the freestaters side. He didn't know it was his brother so I'm sure he felt bad.
Plans Both stories, the scarlet ibis and the simon birch story are similar in symbols as in the deer by the lake in the simon birch story, theme as in don’t take someone you love for granted, and setting as in the two boys in both stories were born with undersized hearts. Symbols is one way the two stories are similar, in the Scarlet Ibis story the scarlet ibis symbolizes doodle because the scarlet ibis is weak and expected to die the same as doodle. the second symbol is again in the scarlet ibis, Doodle is seen as a symbol of hope because the doctors and everyone else believe he is going to die but then he lives. Then everyone thinks that he will never walk but his older brother teaches him to.
One similarity of both stories is that they are set in a civil war. Another similarity is both stories deal with people who have some kind of relationship to the enemy. In “ The Sniper” , the sniper’s enemy was his brother, and in “ Cranes” the main character met his childhood friend Tokchae. Also in both stories the main characters have friends or family on the other side of the war, and the main character is left ultimately with a dilemma.
The relationship between the protagonist is their brothers in the stories The Sniper and The Scarlet Ibis. In the first story the brothers were on opposite sides. They were shooting at each other and one ended up dying. The relationship was like that because they didn't know who they were shooting at until the end. They were on opposite sides so it was good that he got the kill, but bad because he killed his brother.
The Couraging Brother Sometimes people feel the need to give up on themselves or others after failing to achieve a goal. In “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst, Doodle’s big brother has no confidence or hope in what Doodle, his challenged brother, could do. Throughout this story, Doodle and the narrator never give up no matter how hard the obstacles were to overcome. When Doodle was born, everyone had their doubts. Doodle’s family knew that they were going to struggle once Doodle entered the family.
Any Rand’s novella Anthem is relatable to James Hurst’s short story The Scarlet Ibis, given that Equality 7-2125 partakes similar actions as the older brother in this short story. Both of these male figures worries were foreshadowed continuously what’s to come. Each attempts changing the idea of a community or a specific person. Such as The Scarlet Ibis showing a perfect example of the older brother ashamed of Doodle because he does not desire to be made into an amusement.
The stories The Sniper and The Scarlet Ibis show us that the protagonist have a relationship with their brother. The Sniper shows us that the protagonist might have had a good relationship with his brother. The story does not really tell us that he even had a brother but when the protagonist shot him not knowing it was him. He crawled over there and look at the body and it was his brother and was very sad. The second story shows us that the protagonist had a good relationship with his brother.
The third text, The Sniper, written by Liam O’Flaherty, shows a sniper killing targeted people. Near the end of the book, he realized that he killed his own brother as well. The Book Thief, “Lamb to the Slaughter”, and “The Sniper” are such stories that have been able to teach me that humans make plenty of mistakes but those mistakes, however, cannot be erased.
A similarity in “The Sniper” is when the sniper realized he had took a risky shot
This violence was brought about by assumption, when really they were brothers all along. The sniper realizes, and regrets his actions at the end. War and conflict is about protecting loved ones, and about defending your rights and liberties, but we must be careful not to let these conflicts blind our minds with assumption, or violence will destroy
