While reading the book titled Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline, I was introduced to several characters. First, we are introduced to Molly, a troubled foster kid in a bad situation. Then we meet Vivian, a great lady, who experiences the life of an orphan during the early 1900s. The connection between Molly and Vivian is Jack, Molly’s boyfriend. Jack is the character who I felt like I was most like.
In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch shows and gives courage to others when in need. First, Atticus shoots Tim Johnson, a dog with rabies, who is ready to charge and saves the town. Although Atticus had a high chance of missing and shooting at the Radley’s house, but he still shoots because he knows that if he misses or backs out, he could get killed along with other several people in town. Second, Atticus shows courage when he goes downtown to the county jail to guard Tom Robinson against the lynch mob. Atticus guards Tom Robinson against the lynch mob because he knows that it is wrong to kidnap people
There are many examples of courage throughout To Kill A Mockingbird. It just so happens that Atticus Finch displays most of those examples. He not only defined courage in the best way, but he also fits it like a glove. One being defending Tom Robinson, another when he goes to the jail in the middle of the night, and lastly, when he follows his morals even though he could lose his son. Of course, most people think of the trial when they hear Atticus’s name.
In the book to kill a mocking bird by Harper Lee confidence is a key aspect to the books variety. The book defends courage as “its when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyways, and you see it through no matter what” (pg. 149) this type of courage is shown in the book from a handful of people I picked the two I believe show courage the best. We should all learn from this quote and show courage just like these characters did. To start, Atticus was courageous in many way, he changes the book and his actions pave the road for Jem, Scout, and Dill.

One of the greatest indications of courage in the novel, was when Mr. Atticus remained calm and went on with the trial even when threats of being killed were arising everyday.
There are many different definitions of courage. In this novel courage is defined as an act of kindness that most would not display, that is appreciated or admired. Atticus Finch is a lawyer in Maycomb, where he lives with his two children, Jem and Scout.
In the poem “Courage” by Edgar Guest courage is explained in the poem by how you stand up for yourself, hold your grounds, and your self confidence.. “Courage was never designed for show; it isn’t a thing that comes and goes.” Both pieces of literature have many courageous characters and realistic life events that require courage to develop the characters and give the reader an insight on how you don't need to be born a hero to have courage. Harper Lee chose to show the novel in this way too show the reader real world problems that you could encounter anyway and how you need to have courage to help yourself and others around you. To add onto that, in both “Courage” and “To kill a mockingbird” The tone is displayed as inspiring.

Throughout the novel characters show courage in many ways, some greater than others. The three most courageous characters in the novel being, Atticus finch, a father and lawyer, Tom Robinson, an african american slave, and mrs. dubose a morphine addict. They all overcome different hardships with one attribute, courage.

I will try to interpret these two motives and show how they are strongly connected to each other. There are many different types of courage and many people who all show it in their own personal way. If people talk about bravery and courage, they mostly think of the physical kind of courage. But there are also other kinds, which are often forgotten or cast aside by their big brother: moral and emotional courage.
