The characters and their developments contribute towards the creation and destruction of a tyrannical government. One instance includes the similarities between the main protagonist of V for Vendetta, Evey, and the common animals of Animal Farm. Orwell says from the perspective of the animals in Animal Farm, “If she could have spoken her thoughts, it would have been to say that this was not what they aimed at when they had set themselves years ago for the overthrow of the human race.” (Orwell 58). Being the ‘victims of system’, both characters saw that something was going wrong with the government they thought had no flaws. Snowball and V were full of these ideas, and intended to spread them throughout Europe with good wishes, although Snowball’s ideas often consisted of the animals doing hard work while the pigs relaxed. Snowball was not able to get around to pursuing these ideas, as he was banished by Napoleon’s secret police, but V was able to through Evey, even after he had died. The oppressive leaders that brought about the totalitarian regime can easily be identified as Adam Sutler from the film and Napoleon from Animal Farm. Orwell states, “In April, Animal Farm was proclaimed a Republic, and it became necessary to elect a President. There was only one candidate, Napoleon, who was elected unanimously.” (Orwell 78). Rather than becoming a Republic, Animal Farm was turning into a dictatorship, which had also happened to London in V for Vendetta.
