Comparison between WW1 and WW2. Ali Hamza 5B (4) 1.How and why they began One of the differences between World War 1 and 2 is how and why they began. World War 1 started when assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinandwhich created an explosive reaction from Europe because of years of built up hostility and distrust. When World War 2 broke out it was because Germany began invading neighbouring countries like Austria and Yugoslavia. When Germany then invaded Poland a group of countries called the allies united to defeat Germany and its friends, who are referred to as the Axis powers. Germany was joined by Italy,Japan and Russia (Russia changed sides part-way through the war). It is generally accepted that the main cause of World War 2 was Germany’s political,social and economic instability. 2. Technology The wars were different partly because of progress in technology. World War 1 began when the world still had it’s rear end grounded in Nineteenth Century culture and technology. It happened 49 years after the American Civil War, but not in a lot had changed since then. Lots of new technology had been invented, but nobody had learned how to use it in practice.
