Daisy Bates was an African American civil rights activist and newspaper publisher who documented the battle to end segregation in Arkansas .She married Journalist Christopher Bates and they operated a weekly African-American newspaper, the Arkansas State Press, Bates became president of Arkansas chapter of the NAACP and played a crucial role in the fight against segregation, which she documented in her book “The Long Of Little Rock.” She died in 1999. Her mother was sexually assaulted and murdered by three white men and her father left her. As a teenager,bates met Lucious Christopher “L.C.” Bates, an insurance agent and an experienced journalist.

Daisy Bates- the Civil Rights Hero The integration of schools was a big part of the Civil Rights Movement. These children that dared to enter the all-white school were all threatened and risked their lives. As many obstacles got in their way, they kept on fighting. This event became so huge that President Eisenhower got involved.
One experience I think that has helped me prepare for the role of an Apprentice is my present job; this job has allowed me to work directly with both students and teachers in a school setting. This experience has allowed me to learn about school culture, creating curriculums around teamwork and has most of all allowed me to learn how to build rapport with students based of their interest and needs. These internships helped me get an inside perspective of how nurses go above and beyond their everyday duties to ensure patient care, setting a standard for me to go above and beyond in terms of my education, my service to others, and in life. With the changes in college tuition having increased and state support for college students having taken a decrease over the last couple of years, this scholarship would benefit me tremendously in my goals to continue my education.
All Over My Head Flowers for Algernon is a thought provoking short story by Daniel Keyes about a 36 year old man, Charlie Gordon, who had of an unusually low IQ of 68, that left his mind trapped in one similar to a 5 year olds. This lead his life through a rollercoaster of struggles he was desperate to change. He had been offered a surgery that was said to triple his IQ, and give him the “normal” life he always dreamed of. This being said, because this procedure had never been tested on anyone but a mouse, Algernon, the side effect were unknown not to mention unpredictable.
Resident Assistants serve many purposes and play many roles in the community. They help to build and promote a supportive and active community within their residence hall and across the campus, and offer support and guidance to their residents. This aids in making Geneseo feel more like home and a community rather than simply a school. RAs enforce Geneseo and Department of Student Life rules, while also being a more easily accessible and less intimidating resource to other students in need of help. I want to be an RA so that I can become more involved in the Geneseo community in a positive way, by helping and representing other students.
By participating as an SIP intern, I hope to gain experience in the scientific field and to further my passion in science. When I am a working adult, I would be most happy spending my days in bioengineering. I highly enjoy delving into biology- I love the classes, reading its applications, and researching what the career is like. Thinking narrowly, participating as an SIP intern gives me a chance to spend my summer well.
Women's roles have changed throughout time. Both The Chrysanthemums, written by John Steinback, and The Story of an Hour, by Kate Choppin, are stories that use both direct and indirect characterization on women and their roles in their time. Throughout The Chrysanthemums, there are examples of our protagonist Elisa Allen struggling as a woman in the 1930s Great Depression society. In The Story of an Hour, it focuses on the fact that the protagonist, Mrs. Louise Mallard, feels oppressed and stripped of her freedom as a person. In addition, these two women grew from their pain, but were still seeking for more.
As a first generation student to attend college from a family of seven, the journey to a higher education has been arduous and overwhelming. My family gives me all the encouragement I need and are very optimistic about pursuing a higher degree. Unlike myself, my parents did not have the opportunity to attend college. My parents were born and raised in a small town in Mexico where the highest level of education they received was fifth grade. I have worked since I was 14 years old to support my parents with bills, and also saving for college and my own vehicle.

It’s a fact that over 7,000 species of plants are being consumed today. Plants are one of the reasons that we get clean water; as they help regulate the water cycle.
