Sin In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner

When I read, “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner” I felt that it was a big metaphor for a sin and how it takes its course through our lives. Although Bowra does make a good point about the story’s relations to dreams to better help the understanding of supernatural events that occur, I believe that the story has a deeper meaning and can be related to sin rather than a dream. I do agree with some points Bowra makes but he goes more into the reasons for the sequence of the events and how Coleridge wrote it to relate it to familiar things than his own opinion of the story’s theme. One thing most people have in common is the belief that everyone pays for their sins. Committing a sin results in consequences and repentance is required to be forgiven.
