Despite my passion for athletics, I have spent the majority of my high school career involved in show choir. I participate in the Executive Session at Sauk Prairie High School. Show choir incorporates training under professional choreographers, undergoing numerous voice lessons, and traveling the country for competitions. This self-disciplinary activity pushes me to work hard and strive for perfectionism while taking leadership roles in a professional environment. Furthermore, show choir allows me to impact others through my performance and to take risks.

For those who don’t know, Show Choir is a very difficult art that gets a lot of hate for no reason. If you would take time to notice Show Choir and other sports are very similar. We will also go into the pros and cons of doing Show Choir to show how difficult art is.
According to Ashleigh Lutz “Not only do electives help students develop their skills and better understand themselves, but they also help students better understand the world around them. ”The school board is taking away the computer science, cooking, and music electives. The reason is that there is a money shortage in the school board where they can't afford the electives. There are beneficial advantages associated with music. Students who take a music elective perform better in school than students who do not take the elective.
Tejano music seemed to be in a hiatus in the WWII years, since there was little interest and little resources. After the war, however, the interest reignited focusing on female duets and orquesta tejana genres. The main sponsors of these musical revival were Paco Betancourt and Armando Marroquin, who founded Discos Ideal in 1947. In the post war years, Mexican American music needed a push and jukeboxes were a great tool to provide everyone with the chance to listen to some good songs.

During middle school I became involved with the varsity orchestra; this is where I developed my basic musical and performance skills. I began to crave the talent of singing during my eighth grade year, especially after my dad revealed to me his singing capabilities. Having listening and practicing with different music, I learned to keep a pitch, but I did not have a good vocal tone. My voice was weak, soft, and far from producing the least amount of musicality. I was relieved second semester when other kids transferred over into chorus, growing our chorus slightly. At the end of the year, we had learned that the chorus was trying to put a group together to go to Disney World at Christmas to sing in the Candle Light Processional at Epcot, so when it came time for school to start again in August, the room was full of new people. Once again we could divide our guy section into tenor and bass and divide the girls into Alto, Soprano II and Soprano I. After sending in an audition video, our chorus was selection to join the mass choir for two performances and to prepare, we learned 15 songs. My junior year, I transferred voice teachers because my old voice teacher was moving away.
I have always been a particularly musical person. When I was younger, I wanted to become a singer when I grew up, but upon joining the choir in elementary I realized I did not have the talent for singing that I thought I had. Continually singing off key and never sounding as good as my peers did, I decided to confine myself to singing at home where only my family could hear me. Despite this revelation that I was, in fact, a terrible singer, I still wanted to participate in some type of musical performance and decided to join the band in middle school. After trying out various different instruments, I settled on the flute and quickly fell in love.
Music has a powerful impact on people, and can change people in a dramatic way. When people go to concerts, they don’t only listen to the music being played, they also look at what music and songs they are playing or singing, and the order of the songs. The order of the concert has an effect over whether the audience will enjoy the music or not. Above, I listed what I think the order of the songs should be. The concert repertoire should be in this certain order, based on our concert’s intended purpose, what our audience is feeling during the concert, and what Christmas means to each individual in the audience and performing.
In many public schools, music education programs are being terminated, due to budget cuts and governmental program reforms; while some believe that the arts are secondary to courses such as math and science, it has been proven that musical education helps students to improve skills such as project management, team building, effective time management, leadership, cooperation and collaboration. Due to the fact that the benefits reaped from music education overwhelm any negatives associated with it, music education programs should be kept in public schools. It was only my second year being in choir and I was going to attempt college-level music competing against people who have been singing way longer than I had; some that has even been in choir since the sixth grade. I knew I needed all the help I could get so I went to Tarleton’s All-State Choir Camp over the summer. It was there I saw a familiar face, Kyle Hendrix, a former all-stater bass from our school.
The Lovell High School Concert Band had an amazing concert on the 30th of November. The songs included Celebration and Tribute, Sleigh Ride, Spirit of the Highlands, with a bonus of the combined band on Jinge, Jinge, Jingle. While all the songs were good, they were not spectacular. One that stands out to me is Celebration and Tribute. While Celebration and Tribute is not an extremely a technical piece, it still has its moments of fast notes and rhythms.
What all goes into writing a song? How did the artist come up with that idea? What was going through their head? Writing a song can be a long process. For some artist it can take up to three months to write a song, for others they can write a song in five minutes or less.
I have learned how to read musical pieces, how to play different piano-like instruments, and how to better organize my thoughts and critical thinking. I am a sophomore in high school and have been for a while now. That makes the experience of me being in band a time period of one to two years. Band has changed me for the better, whether it be me learning how to navigate myself through life or music, it has been there for me for a long time now. Without band and music, I do not know who I would be.
