“It's clear in America that family structure and poverty are intertwined: Nearly a third of households headed by single women live below the poverty line. And just six percent of families led by married couples are in the official ranks of the poor. Poverty, meanwhile, touches an astounding 45 percent of children who live without a father” (Washington Post Online). Poverty is a problem every country has. Most people realize the difficulties the lower class must go through on a day to day basis. However, not everyone is aware of the biggest battle, trying to overcome poverty. While it is hard for anyone to get out of poverty, it is an especially difficult task for single mother minorities to have any upward mobility. Immigrants must face the problems the language barrier of a new country creates for them, such as communicating with a potential employer. Nonetheless, it’s even harder when being a single mother minority. Minorities have difficulty finding jobs because of their background. The language barrier makes it nearly impossible to get a job, even when they’re qualified, because of the lack of communication. Immigrants must also face the chance of becoming emotionally distressed, given the fact that they’re in a whole new environment. Fortunately, there are many programs all over the US that help immigrants find the best this country has to offer. Being a single mother can also be tough when finding a job. As if being a woman in poverty wasn’t bad enough, due to the lack of employment opportunities and labor intensive jobs, a single mother must also provide for their kid/s. This would be far more easier to do if these moms were offered cheap and adequate child care.
