American Literature:
Three Most Important Titles Throughout our first part of the school year, we have discussed and looked at several pieces of literature. All of which have had great significance to American history. The titles we have studied goes along with the most important and influential parts of American history. Of course, all of these literature pieces are worthy of great attention and study, but some are most important than others. The titles I think are the most important so far are Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, The Declaration of Independence, and Yellow Wallpaper. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God by Jonathan Edwards was an extremely influence piece of literature from our anthology, not only for the time it was wrote in, but still today. He delivered this speech to a congregation in the year of 1741. Despite the fact that he was calm and pretty much emotionless during this sermon, the audience was said to have screamed in horror and Jonathan Edwards was interrupted many times and had to ask for silence. This title is pretty explanatory as to why it is so important in American history. When we broke away from Britain rule, we had to create our own government in America. They had specifics for what they wanted because they didn’t want to create government similar to the one they just broke away from. This is an important title because it is a formal declaration that the United States is free from British rule. The Declaration of Independence also explains the reason why we decided to break away for foreign rule and justified the purpose of doing so. It was the start of our nation and the Declaration of Independence is still very important to us today. Obviously, The declaration of Independence helped to form our nation so it was a very important part of American literature as well as
