Edwards has a more effective style because the tone and aggressiveness he has. “Sinners in the hands of an Angry God” by Jonathan Edward theme is, God provoked by man’s wickedness, but the only thing holding them up is God's own hands. While, Nathaniel Hawthorne's theme in “The Minister’s Black Veil” is do not be quick to judge based on appearance. Big difference in their themes which connect to their style in the rest of the essay. The themes of the two authors passages can be compared in the event of dealing with God. the passages both talk about everyone's a sinner, and God is the one to judge. As it state in “The Minister’s Black Veil”, “Have men avoided me, and women shown no pity, and children screamed and fled, only for my Black Veil?” This quote proves that Hawthorne's and Edward’s themes compare because god should be the only judge and when people judge God is provoked by their wickedness. …show more content…

Edward’s theme is much more aggressive than Hawthorne's theme. This can be said because the words he used trying to put the fear into them without showing any let off. On the other hand, Hawthorne likes to tell them the easiest way possible and not make much of an impact.
